Experience the spectacular scenery of the Ngorongoro Highlands where indigenous Maasai people live in their traditional ways and climb the Maasai Mountain of god, an active volcano.
For active types, Tanzania has a lot to offer and this is one of the most dramatic hikes in East Africa. As well as the amazing scenery there is also the chance to witness the changing lives of the Maasai in both Ngorongoro and Natron.

DAY 1: ARRIVE IN TANZANIA.
Arrive anytime at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), there will be a safari driver waiting at the Airport to pick up you to Arusha at Masailand Safari Lodge, where the rest of the day is at leisure.
We stay at Masailand Safari Lodge, which is beautifully located on the foot of Mount Meru and is a perfect place to prepare for your adventure.
Dinner and overnight at Masailand Safari Lodge: Half board.
DAY 2: SAFARI IN SINYA NATURE CONSERVANCY.
This morning after breakfast you will be met by your guide and depart by road to Sinya, a 138,000-acre private wildlife conservancy in a remote area in the shadow of Mt. Kilimanjaro. It’s flood plains, hills, acacia woodland and spectacular views of Mt. Kilimanjaro, give life to one of the most beautiful, pristine, wild areas of Northern Tanzania.
This is Maasai land, the arid land of Sinya, one of the few areas in Africa where huge bull elephants more than 50 years old, carrying tusks of considerable size, are regularly seen. Some of these bulls live permanently in the area and others migrate, together with herds of mothers and calves, from Amboseli National Park in Kenya to Sinya in search of water and food. Because of their familiarity with safari vehicles in Amboseli, they let you approach them at very short distances, allowing for excellent photographic opportunities.
Dinner and overnight at Kambi ya Tembo: Full board.
DAY 3: ANOTHER DAY SAFARI TO SINYA NATURE CONSERVANCY.
This morning after breakfast at sunrise, you will depart on a game drive in the conservancy. Early mornings, when the cloud cover lifts from the snowcapped Mt. Kilimanjaro, the light is perfect for photographing the majestic mountain. You will also visit a local Maasai compound where you are allowed to take photos of the extended families and their way of life. Return to camp for lunch and some time to relax set out on another game drive, go for a walk escorted by Maasai trackers. If it happens to be a Tuesday, you can also visit the Maasai market where Maasai from miles around bring their cattle, goats, fabric and other items to sell or trade. Spend your final evening at Sinya with drinks around the campfire, and dinner to celebrate the end of another memorable day.
Dinner and overnight at Kambi ya Tembo: Full board.
DAY 4: SAFARI TO ARUSHA NATIONAL PARK.
After breakfast, you’ll leave Sinya and drive to Arusha National Park, one of the most picturesque small parks in Africa. Set between the slopes of Mt. Meru and Mt. Kilimanjaro this small park is one of Tanzania’s hidden gems and one of the few places where you will have a good chance to see the rare Black & White Colobus monkeys, which inhabit the Ngurdoto Forest. The parks contain a series of shimmering alkaline lakes, which attract large flocks of flamingoes and a variety of birds, along with elephant, buffalo, zebra, gazelle, warthog, hippo and an amazing number of the giraffes. The rare black rhino is also found here. One of the highlights of today’s game drive is a short walk to a viewing area overlooking the miniature Ngurdoto Crater, which is completely reserved for the animals, so no one is allowed to go down into it. From high above the tiny dots that appear on the crater floor are actually huge Buffalo, that feed in the marsh grasses.
After stopping for a picnic lunch and more wildlife viewing you will leave the park and drive a short way to Arusha.
Dinner and overnight at Masailand Safari Lodge: Half board.
DAY 5: CULTURAL AND WALKING SAFARI TO LAKE NATRON.
Today you’ll experience the culture and traditions of the local Maasai at Lake Natron. Your local guide will show you the Maasai Boma and explain the way Maasai live; after a short visit in the Maasai boma, we will drive to Serengeti National Park for overnight.
Dinner and overnight at Engaresero Tented Camp: Full board.
DAY 6: GAME DRIVE TO SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK.
We head towards the Serengeti National Park. we drive into the Serengeti itself and the rest of the afternoon is spent game viewing in the vast plains that are broken only by stands of acacia trees and the occasional kopje. In December, January and February we will normally meet the migration with large herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle. There are always plenty of resident animals, such as giraffe, buffalo, and elephant, and many large predators such as lion, cheetah, and leopard. We return to our special tented camp for the night.
Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Acacia Tented: Full board.
DAY 7: ANOTHER DAY GAME DRIVE IN SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK.
We have another full day in this wonderful park, rising early to make the most of our time. Our guides will choose the best spotting locations for the time of year; we can spend time at the Hippo pool watching these majestic animals laze about in the cool water happily living alongside the crocodiles, watch a big pride of lions, be in the middle of the migration, sometimes surrounded by wildebeest, sometimes by zebras, which travel with the wildebeest. We journey from the wide-open plains to the kopjes: these volcanic rocky outcrops provide protection and shelter for a wide variety of animals and from the top, we can look out across the vast grasslands of the Serengeti. This diverse and interesting landscape will provide us with the ultimate in game viewing, we will hopefully see all of the plain games; elephants, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, lions and if you are lucky the elusive leopard and cheetah, as well as huge amounts of interesting birdlife, from the elegant secretary birds to the flightless ostrich. We return to our special tented camp for the night.
Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Acacia Tented Camp: Full board.
DAY 8: SERENGETI TO NGORONGORO CRATER.
We start the day with an early morning game drive before heading to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Ngorongoro is a special place in that it is a Conservation Area, not a National Park; this means that the whole area is managed for both the animals and the local Masai people who graze their cattle alongside the indigenous wildlife. During the drive in Ngorongoro, we have a chance to glimpse something of the Masai way of life. After stopping at the entrance gate, where there is a chance to learn more about this fascinating volcanic landscape, we will drive around the rim of the Crater itself, and from here we can look down and see the herd of wildebeest or buffalos. Finally, we descend into the crater. The crater walls provide a natural sanctuary for the animals, which means there is plenty to see: lions, elephants, buffalo, rhino and leopard (if you are lucky). The only animal you won’t see in here is a giraffe, whose long legs are unable to cope with the steeps sides of the crater. In the afternoon we travel to Lake Eyasi.
Dinner and overnight at Kisima Ngeda Tented Camp: Full board.
DAY 9: MORNING TOUR TO HADZABE AND DATOGA TRIBES.
Start off early with your bushman guide to meet a group of resident Hadzabe people. Enjoy the Hadzabe Tour walking into the bush with the only hunter-gatherers remaining in the East African region. The Hadzabe speak a click-based language and move their encampments with the seasonal movements of the wildlife. Your guide is a member of the group and teaches you more about how they hunt, track wildlife, make fire and even take honey from bee’s nests before introducing you to his people and explaining a little more about the customs and the way of life.
After the tour to Hadzabe and Datoga tribes, we will drive straight to Lake Natron.
Dinner and overnight at Lake Manyara Kirurumu Tented Camp: Full board.
DAY 10: MTO WAUMBU TO KILIMANJARO AIRPORT.
Today we will visit Maasai boma in Mto Wa Umbu before we drive back to Arusha.
Get an inside look at the homes and exquisite crafts of Mto Wa Mbu’s many tribes. Visitors will get a chance to meet locals and learn about banana beer, Makonde woodcarvings, and the tribal painting techniques; the village provides a great introduction to everyday life in Africa.
