This 9 Day safari allows us to experience the highlights of the Northern Safari Circuit. We experience breathtaking wildlife in the midst of some of the most diverse of landscapes. We also visit the world famous Serengeti National Park. The wildebeest migration, the last great terrestrial migration on our Earth, is the movement of vast numbers of the Serengeti's wildebeest, accompanied by large numbers of zebra, as well as antelope and others. These creatures move in an annual pattern which is fairly predictable. As well as our three days on the Serengeti Plains we will take the opportunity to spend a day at the Manyara National Park where we may see some thousand flamingo feeding in the shallows of the shallow soda lake that covers much of the parks environs. Two nights are spent at the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the seven wonders of Africa and home to over twenty five thousand large mammals, the premier game viewing experience in all of Tanzania. We finish our adventures at Tarangire National Park for two nights, so named for the river that wends her way through the park, attracting a multitude of myriad wildlife to feed off her sating waters.
Day 1: Arusha - Lake Manyara National Park
In the morning, after your breakfast, our Signature Safari guide and driver will collect you for the 130 km drive on good tarmac road with a picnic lunch on board to the Lake Manyara National Park. Along the way we pass the Maasai in their colourful clothes by the roadside tending their cattle with the beautiful sweeping Rift Valley landscape drawing our attention to the beauty of Planet Earth. Manyara is host to the dizzying sight of the multitudinous flamingo and also harbours a wealth of wildlife such as lion, hippo, elephant, zebra, buffalo, giraffe, baboon, blue and vervet monkey, warthog, amongst many many more. An ornithological paradise with over four hundred species of bird having been here recorded. We will enjoy our picnic lunch during our extensive game drives and, with day coming to a close and the African night descending, spreading shadows all across the land, we wend our way to our carefully selected lodgings to relax in anticipation of dinner and take our overnight rest in the accommodation according to your request.

Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater Tour
Early birds this morning, we enjoy a hearty breakfast, we descend the bumpy winding track to the crater floor. More precisely a caldera, this enclosed ecosystem was formed in the massive explosion of a volcano some two or three million years ago. The caldera, at three hundred and four kilometres squared and rising to a height of 610 metres at the rims highest point, is the premier game viewing experience in all of Tanzania. Home to over twenty five thousand large mammals the conservation area is more extraordinary for the fact that some ten thousand Maasai graze their some forty thousand cattle within the bounds and live cheek by jowl with the wildlife. We can expect upon arrival on the crater floor to see perhaps all of the big five if we are lucky, elephant, lion, rhinoceros, buffalo, and the elusive leopard. With only an estimated fifty of the endangered northern white rhino here inhabiting we will need lady luck on our side, but the crater is also home to a plethora of other animals: wildebeest, zebra, cheetah, marmot, warthog, both Grant’s and Thompson’s gazelle. With over five hundred species of bird identified this is truly an ornithological paradise, ostrich abound as well as marabou stork, vultures cleaning up the carrion from the big cats feasting, and the largest flighted bird in the world, the kory bustard. We take our picnic lunch by the hippo pools and continue our game drives in the afternoon until, with the African night descending, we wend our way up the track again and make for our same lodgings as the night before.

The Serengeti National Park, the largest park in Tanzania, is a land of diverse landscapes and habitats such as grassy plains, swamps, lakes, savannah, and mountains. Here the great wildebeest and zebra migration makes its circuitous journey along with a range of other animals and, depending on the season, we may have the opportunity to witness thousands of animals on their search for food and water. After taking our lunch at the Serengeti Serena Lodge we relax and take in the sensation of being upon the Serengeti. Rejuvenation and the sensation of the landscape sinking in, with the endless African night descending we enjoy delectable dining, conversation, a star welcome the night upon the ‘Endless Plain’ and rest assured that our commodious quarters await to harbour our ease and dreams of wild cats.

Day 5: Full day in Serengeti Park
This entire day is set aside for further game drives upon the Serengeti. The Serengeti is the habitat for an abundance of wildlife, such as impala, buffalo, crocodile, and hippo, but is more well-known for its great migrating herds of zebra and wildebeest. The animals’ trek is determined by the rainfall and varies from year to year. In November and December the animals move from the northern region dominated by woodlands and hills to the grassy plains of the south. During the longer rainy season from April to June the horde return to the north. Apart from the migrating herds we may have the chance to spot the predators such as leopard, cheetah, and lion, ever and always lurking close by. With our full day on the plains accomplished we return to our chosen lodgings for our well deserved rest and repast and comfortable sleep, encased in crisp cotton, dreaming of wild cats!
