Land and Water Safari Tour

This safari covers two of the premier parks in Zambia – The South Luangwa and Lower Zambezi. The Luangwa Valley, which marks the end of the Great Rift Valley, is one of the last unspoiled wilderness areas and possibly the finest wildlife sanctuary in Africa. The Luangwa River flows into the Zambezi River – just below the Lower Zambezi National Park. This park, scenically bordered by an impressive escarpment, has excellent game, which can be viewed from either the river or by land. Quietly drifting past a huge elephant feeding is a great experience.
Malawi is a landlocked country, running down the end of the Great Rift Valley. Dominated by Lake Malawi, the third largest lake in Africa, the surrounding country is exceptionally beautiful with dramatic scenery that includes rocky outcrops, high mountains, plateaus and views across what is considered to be Africa’s most beautiful lake. Malawi is known as the “Warm Heart of Africa” and as a people the Malawians live up to this
name. They are extremely friendly and welcoming. There are many market scenes, road side stalls, cottage industries that a visitor can comfortably visit. With both the scenery and the culture Malawi is a great country to drive in.

Day 1 : Anabezi

On arrival at Lusaka International Airport a Robin Pope Safaris representative will meet you and assist you onto your flight to Jeki Airstrip for Anabezi.
Anabezi is found at the lower end of the Zambezi National Park, exclusively located offering relaxing and serene isolation. With its unique location, Anabezi offers diverse wildlife sightings. Many yellow corn pods drop from the surrounding Ana Trees attracting a diversity of animals from the higher land to feed during the dry months

Day 2 - 4 : Anabezi

You have three full days to enjoy the mighty Zambezi River experience. Lower Zambezi is great for water based activities that include canoeing, boating and fishing with game drives and
walking as a bonus, for you to choose from. You therefore have a full range of activities on offer for these two days; the choice is all yours. Tiger fishing (on a catch and release basis) is a must for keen fishermen.

Day 5 : Tena Tena

Today you will head off to Zambia’s premier safari destination, the renowned South Luangwa National Park. Transfer will be a flight via Lusaka and onto Mfuwe Airport. At Mfuwe International Airport a guide from Robin Pope Safaris will meet you for transfer to Tena Tena. The drive to camp is approximately an1 hour and a half through colourful local scenes of villages, agriculture as well as bush; but may be more depending on what exciting sightings you have along the way. Tena Tena is a remote and small camp which lies within the National Park and enjoys a stunning location on a sweeping bend of the Luangwa River. A grove of mahogany trees shade the large custom-made tents. From the thatched dining room and bar, guests can watch the elephants, hippo and antelope on the riverbank. Tena has 6 tents, each with a dressing room, open air bathroom and private verandah that overlooks a water hole. Most meals are taken under the shade of a huge Mahogany tree in the centre of the camp. On arrival you will be shown to your tent and then lunch will be served followed by a siesta and then tea before the afternoon and evening game drive.

Day 6 - 8 : Tena Tena

These are a few days for a chance to drive or walk through the ebony groves. Or you may decide this is an ideal day, depending on the heat and time of year, to explore the Nsefu Sector of the National Park. Possibly an all day picnic drive, day tour to Kawaza village for a cultural experience or a mix of walking and game drives – nothing is set in stone, all will be tailored to your interests.

Day 9 : Pumulani

After an early breakfast, transfer to Mfuwe Airport for your flight to Lilongwe. The flight time to Lilongwe is approximately 50 minutes. On arrival at Lilongwe’s Kamuzu Airport, you will be met by our staff, who will assist with immigration procedures and the payment of airport taxes. Then onto your road transfer to Pumulani. Pumulani is situated on the Westside of the Nankumba Peninsula in the South end of Lake Malawi – romantically called “The Lake of Stars”. The ten villas are scattered around the hillside and are individual in shape and style but all have a spacious bedroom, bathroom and extensive sitting area. The front sliding doors open onto the deck – elevated above the ground giving optimal views. The central dinning and bar area is high above the lake with the most spectacular views and leads onto an expansive deck. The infinity swimming pool is on a lower terraced deck. The lake shore bar offers light snacks as well as refreshments. Meals will be served in the dining area, on the beach or by arrangement on your private deck. The stunning setting of the lodge and the unique comfort of the rooms means that many guests choose to make relaxation their main activity, but there are enough activities available to keep guests busy.

Day 10 : Pumulani

Enjoy the first full day of relaxation at Pumulani. Our remote beach setting is ideal for those who simply want to soak up the sun and swim in the clear blue waters of the lake. Those who prefer to take a dive in the swimming pool, we have a infinity swimming pool near the central dining area with grand views over the lake. For those seeking activity we offer many watersports activities like snorkelling, fishing, sailing, kayaking, waterskiing, wake boarding and fun tube rides (all motorized activities are excluded).

We offer special diving courses at the best diving spots near one of the islands. For those who are interested in the real Malawian village life we offer guided walks through one of the local villages. Malawians are renowned for being amongst the friendliest people in Africa and during your stay you will have the opportunity to meet them.
